Gender-based Violence (GBV) Sub-sector

The protection and safety of women, girls and other groups at risk of gender-based violence can only be achieved through collective and sustainable action. This is because gender-based violence (GBV) is best addressed when multiple sectors and organizations work together to create and implement unified violence prevention, risk mitigation and response strategies.

Therefore, the Regional Subsector of Gender Violence facilitates the coordination and implementation of gender violence programming in the 17 RMRP countries, it leads the construction of synergies and coordination with other sectors (through coalitions), training and awareness, strategic planning and monitoring and evaluation. The Subsector was established in 2018 and operates alongside other subsectors under the Protection Sector.

The Subsector has the following objectives:
• Strengthen coordination at the national level to ensure that multiple sectors and organizations work together to create and implement unified risk prevention, response and mitigation strategies,
• Promote access to and the importance of specialized multisectoral GBV services for refugee and migrant survivors from Venezuela in humanitarian response,
• Develop informed advocacy activities that positively influence the policies of governments and humanitarian actors (including the United Nations, NGOs and CSOs) to prevent and mitigate gender-based violence and respond to the specific needs of survivors of gender violence that come from Venezuela.
• Promote the improvement of the safety, dignity and well-being of groups at risk of suffering gender violence through the imposition of measures to mitigate the risk of gender violence and empower women and girls

GTRM Peru - Joint Needs Analysis for the RMRP 2023

This Joint Needs Assessment (JNA) is the result of a collective effort by the 100 members of the Refugee and Migrant Working Group (GTRM, for its acronym in Spanish), working together with the Peruvian state. Each year, the methodology is improved, more documents are analyzed, more key informants are interviewed, and more organizations and experts join this effort. This year, we also consulted with the Venezuelan refugee and migrant population for their feedback on the needs and solutions identified during the sectoral workshops. The JNA has especially valuable data this year from the second National Survey on the Venezuelan population (ENPOVE, for its acronym in Spanish), conducted by the Peruvian National Institute of Statistics and Computer Science (INEI, for its acronym in Spanish). These data, gathered in February and March 2022, are representative of the Venezuelan population.
