The series of Migration Governance Needs Assessments, now implemented in Aruba, address the challenges and opportunities for guaranteeing that migration to, from and within the region occurs through well–managed migration policies and mechanisms. This report for Aruba has been contextualized to Aruba’s particular situation, and provides key information to support the Government in understanding the current migration governance systems. The report highlights specific identified needs to support informed decision–making to strengthen migration governance that will benefit both the State and migrants. Download the report here
This study was developed to identify current protection needs of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in Aruba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago and present recommendations for strengthened protection responses. The study is presented in line with the Inter-Agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela (R4V) commitment to protection as a central responsibility of its humanitarian response. It has been developed as part of the efforts of the Regional Protection Sector and the Sub-Regional Platform for the Caribbean.
Situation update and report of activities of R4V partners. The 2022 Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan (RMRP) appeal was launched on 9 December via a virtual event, and 10 December marked the final day of the 16 Days of Activism to end violence against women. Salary reductions impacted communities in Aruba; Venezuelans in Curaçao sought repatriation; employers could face fines for hiring undocumented workers in the Dominican Republic; food insecurity and malnutrition continued to impact Guyana; Trinidad and Tobago minister reaffirmed immigration policies.

Aruba and Curaçao continue to receive the outflow of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, who often undertake dangerous journeys to reach safety. UNHCR provides information and guidance on the asylum process, regularization, and documentation to refugees and asylum-seekers, while exploring local integration opportunities and assisting the most vulnerable.
