Situational report with updated information in the countries of the Southern Cone chapter and activities implemented by the R4V partners on August 2022
The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean face the largest exodus in their recent history. More than 7.1 million Venezuelans live outside their country of origin and close to 6 million reside in the region. In addition to its impact on the living conditions, security, dignity and health of refugees and migrants, the COVID-19 pandemic has deepened pre-existing inequalities and increased the suffering of the most vulnerable people in society. The region's growth forecast for this year will not be sufficient to ensure sustained expansion as the social impacts of the health crisis and the region's structural problems have worsened and will continue during this recovery phase.

Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela in the Latin America and the Caribbean as of Nov 2022
The main purpose of the regional survey on abandoned housing and housing at risk of abandonment in Venezuela was to identify the extent of the abandonment of dwellings belonging to refugees and migrants from Venezuela living in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. The survey aimed to characterize the dwellings abandoned by this population along with the most frequent circumstances and typologies of this abandonment. The survey also sought to characterize the housing situation faced by this population in the host countries using differential approaches. This survey was conducted in the three countries with technical support from the member organizations of the Regional Protection Sector of the R4V Platform. The surveyed households come from more than 90 municipalities in Venezuela where the dwellings they have abandoned or considered at risk of abandonment were located.

The U.S. government has announced a "new migration process for the entry of Venezuelans", which has been called the "Process for Venezuelans". It is important that all teams and people working in the field are aware of this new measure in order to advise and guide Venezuelans who may have questions on this topic. For this reason, we share the following key messages, which may be useful in communicating with Venezuelan refugees and migrants.

On 12 October 2022, the U.S. government announced a “New Migration Process for Venezuelans”, with an enforcement element and a ‘safe pathways’ element. This announcement was followed by the pre-publication of a notice in the Federal Register on October 18 that provides more information on the ‘safe pathways’ element, namely a parole process for Venezuelans. The purpose of this document is to explain what is known, and what is not yet known, about this new U.S. policy as it relates to the treatment of Venezuelans at the U.S.-Mexico border and in the region.
This infographic presents data on the dangers and abuses that refugees and migrants interviewed by 4Mi witnessed and experienced in the Darien Gap, and the assistance needed by respondents. It aims to contribute towards a solid evidence base to inform targeted responses on the ground, as well as advocacy efforts related to the situation of refugees and migrants in the region.
