The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean face the largest exodus in their recent history. More than 7.1 million Venezuelans live outside their country of origin and close to 6 million reside in the region. In addition to its impact on the living conditions, security, dignity and health of refugees and migrants, the COVID-19 pandemic has deepened pre-existing inequalities and increased the suffering of the most vulnerable people in society. The region's growth forecast for this year will not be sufficient to ensure sustained expansion as the social impacts of the health crisis and the region's structural problems have worsened and will continue during this recovery phase.
This infographic presents data on access to information among refugees and migrants heading north, interviewed in Costa Rica. It aims to contribute towards a solid evidence base to inform targeted responses on the ground, as well as advocacy efforts related to the situation of refugees and migrants in the region.
This document uses 4Mi data to explore the profiles of Venezuelans heading back, the factors driving them to leave their host countries, and their motivations for returning. It also provides an analysis of the expectations of refugees and migrants about their return to Venezuela and their future migration intentions. The views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the official opinion of the Danish Refugee Council or any of the donors supporting the work of MMC or this report. Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela in the Latin America and the Caribbean as of Nov 2022
The U.S. government has announced a "new migration process for the entry of Venezuelans", which has been called the "Process for Venezuelans". It is important that all teams and people working in the field are aware of this new measure in order to advise and guide Venezuelans who may have questions on this topic. For this reason, we share the following key messages, which may be useful in communicating with Venezuelan refugees and migrants.
